1. Define the intended application before requesting a sample

Ask the supplier to identify:
- botanical name and plant part;
- country or region of origin;
- extract ratio or standardised marker level;
- physical description;
- identity method;
- assay method and acceptance range;
- moisture, ash or particle-size limits where relevant;
- microbiological limits;
- heavy-metal, pesticide and residual-solvent requirements;

7. Agree on the commercial reference standard

Natural raw materials can show normal variation, while a visually similar powder can still fail identity or assay requirements.
8. Plan change control before scale-up
Commercial supply may be affected by crop season, origin, extraction conditions, carrier material, analytical method, packaging or regulatory expectations. Buyers should establish which changes require advance notification.
